The Different Types of Data Safety

There are a myriad of types of security for data, but the most important ones include:

Authentication is the process of verifying whether or not the people who access your information actually who they claim be. This can be done by using passwords, multifactor authentication, and other identity verification tools.

Encryption – the process of turning data into an unreadable format so that only people with the right keys are able to view it. This helps protect sensitive information in transit and at rest like databases, files and email communications.

Monitoring – The process that prevents malicious actors from getting access to or moving data out of your board meeting minutes requirements company’s networks by blocking or preventing access at the gateway. This can include data-loss prevention (DLP) encryption, and educating employees on best practices.

Backups — The capability to quickly and safely restore data in the event of a system failure or disaster, cyberattack or data breach. This can be accomplished by creating a copy of the data in a different format, or by storing it in the cloud.

Data minimization is the process of only keeping the data you need for your business. This reduces your vulnerability because hackers will have fewer targets to attack. It also helps save storage costs and reduces the amount of bloat that could result in compliance issues.
